Maryland Middle School To Get NYCD Visit From USYCA President

Received from USYCA Affiliate member Maryland Youth Cricket Association:

Marley Middle School in Anne Arundel County will be hosting Maryland Youth Cricket Association president Jamie Harrison on National Youth Cricket Day, Monday, March 24. Harrison will spend the entire school day instructing students and teachers in cricket, using cricket sets donated by USYCA.

Marley Middle has a school population of almost 800 students, and while not all will play cricket on the 24th, the PE instructors will be able to teach their students based on what they also learn that day. Harrison will be at Marley at the invitation of Christiana Grue, who attended a cricket rollout session with Harrison last September.

This all-day event is timed to kick off recruiting for the Maryland Junior Cricket League's newest entry, the Linthicum Ferndale Youth Athletic Association (LFYAA). LFYAA cricket will begin its first season in May, only a few miles from the site of Marley Middle School.

"I'm really excited to be working with Christiana Grue and Marley Middle School," said Harrison. "This is a great opportunity to celebrate National Youth Cricket Day by helping to build a new youth cricket base in Maryland, and the first one in Anne Arundel County."

Harrison, a Ferndale resident, will personally direct the new LFYAA program. Last year, Harrison coached the Cockeysville Recreation Council youth cricket team to the state championship match, where it narrowly lost to Germantown.

Harrison is also the president of the national youth cricket body, US Youth Cricket, and is CEO of the American Cricket Federation, a recognized governing body for cricket in the United States.
