Indian Association Of Columbus, Indiana Hosts Spring Cricket Camp

Received from USYCA Affiliate member Indiana Youth Cricket Association:

More than 60 people, including many youths, gathered at Clifty Park in Columbus, Indiana on April 6. Their objective - to learn how to play the game of cricket. This was a larger crowd compared to last year's first of it's kind cricket camp at the same park. Local coaches provided cricket equipment and refreshments to all who attended.

The camp was a joint effort between Indian Association of Columbus (IAC), Trinbago Association, and Pakistan Association and was funded by a Welcoming Community II Grant ($4,000) awarded by "The Heritage Fund - The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County" to spread the word and raise the popularity of this unique sport.

Such a camp is part of the Indiana Youth Cricket Association's initiative, which begin last year when Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown was present to launch/start the event with Jatin Patel (ICC level certified coach, Vice President US Youth Cricket & President Indiana Youth Cricket), who provided instructions and demonstration to twenty people, with the primary objective to train more coaches who already know cricket so they can train/introduce cricket to local area schools, youth programs and communities in Bartholomew County, Indiana. The Columbus Parks Department has also allocated new ground for the local cricket needs in Columbus.
