On Sunday May 20, the Connecticut Youth Cricket Association, assisted by the Mad Dogs Cricket Club, introduced cricket to the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center.
Greg McLaughlin, a board member of OGRCC, started the session off by introducing USYCA to the children and the parents. Rakesh Kallem then gave a five minute introduction about cricket in the USA and USYCA. Later, the children were divided into two groups and played short games, with everyone being given the chance to bat and bowl.
Over 25 enthusiastic children and their parents attended the event, and discussions are now underway to extend the program by an additional 1-2 weeks. Volunteering at the session was Rakesh Kallem, Jonas Wilson, Sanjay Santhanam, Keith Lawrance and James Baird.
McLaughlin arranged the event after having been contacted by Gautam Anne of the West Haven Cricket Club. Members of the Mad Dogs Cricket Club were also key in helping to coordinate and staff the event.
