Cockeysville, Germantown Advance To Maryland Youth Cricket Championship


Cockeysville and Germantown's A squads both scored comfortable wins in their semi-final matches and advanced to the inaugural Maryland Youth Cricket Championship on July 28.

In Cockeysville, a well-balanced batting attack, led by Harshil Patel's 16, brought the home team's total to 54 in its first innings with only the loss of three wickets, while Bowie was bowled out for 50 in its two turns at the crease. Carrying the Bowie innings was Tyler Chotoo with a match-leading 30*, which included 6 fours. Patel also led the way with the ball for Cockeysville, registering 4-16 with a maiden. Rizvi Faaris took two wickets for Bowie in the loss.

Harshil Patel made two catches in the match, as did teammates Sami Sabeeh and Alex Dua. Taking catches for Bowie were Tyler Chotoo, Bennett Varghese and Connor Alexander.

In the B squad match, Bowie, led by Chinkuyu Chimwemw's 13 runs, earned a place in Sunday's B squad finals against Germantown with an exciting final ball victory.


In Germantown, GKCC scored an 8 wicket win over Lutherville-Timonium to secure its spot in the championship match, with Bradford Desai scoring 23 (24) with 4 fours, while teammate Tanuj Shah chipped in a useful 13. For LTRC, Kiran Herman notched 9 from 20 balls with 2 boundaries.

On the bowling side, Sanjith Narayanan dominated for Germantown, taking 6-2 while bowling three. Raja Herman and Sajeel Khan each took a wicket for LTRC.

In the field, Mason Hart had two catches for Lutherville-Timonium, while Nikhil Sahni and Jay Doshi each had two catches for GKCC.

Next week, the Maryland Youth Cricket Championship for 2013 will be held on July 28 at the Germantown Soccerplex, 14501 Schaeffer Road, Germantown.

Tossing the coin for the Championship match will be Dr. Rajan Natarajan, Deputy Secretary of State of Maryland.
