Avon South Middle School recently hosted a day-long cricket camp, which was attended by more than 130 students during PE classes. Basic cricket skills and game introduction were provided by Jatin Patel of USYCA. With this cricket camp, the Avon schools' districtwide cricket launch is completed, and the district is now expected to start an after school cricket program during this year.
“The Avon School District has a number of trained cricket coaches, with cricket playing experience, and this will be a great help in launching the after school program for youngsters. Kristine Stafford, who is Avon High School’s PE teacher and also the girls' soccer coach, will make a large impact on the team building and development process. Overall, Avon schools have great sports programs, and cricket will not be far behind," said Patel.
Stafford said, "Avon Middle School South would like to thank Jatin Patel of Indiana Youth Cricket for visiting our school to host a cricket clinic for our 7th grade physical education students and also to thank USYCA for providing free cricket equipment to help the students learn cricket basic skills.
"Jatin led classes through a variety of drills to develop their skills for the game of cricket. His background in the game with having played professionally was extremely helpful in learning the game for the first time. He created a learning environment that challenged the students in a fun, engaging manner. The students enjoyed the lessons and the PE teachers are looking forward to adding the sport to the curriculum," said Stafford.
