USYCA At Indianapolis Sister Cities International Festival

The inaugural Indianapolis Sister Cities International Festival, organized by the Mayor's Office of International and Cultural Affairs, had all of the right ingredients to show the world. The USYCA/INYCA youth cricket minicamp was one of the major attractions at the NCAA-sponsored “World Sports Park,” where attendees and guests had the opportunity to try their hands at cricket.

The Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Department assisted at the youth cricket minicamp. USYCA Vice-President Jatin Patel of the Indiana YCA led children new to cricket in skill-drills, with the help of cricket-loving volunteers from local schools and colleges.

“Many children enjoyed the basic bat & ball challenge of cricket, with many eagerly looking forward to their next opportunity to play," Patel said. "Such events help our mission to educate American-born youths about cricket, and events like this are a great opportunity for those who have never been exposed to the sport to learn cricket.

"Cricket is growing in the USA and we love having the local community involved. Many of the children who came out had already experienced cricket in their schools, and were quite capable in batting and bowling. Later, many college students and a few adults tried also; for them cricket is a new sports adventure," said Patel.
